Village Loop explores the psychogeographies of a remote alpine village during the Covid-19 lockdown. It captures the artist's experience of living in an isolated community comprising three residents. With its quaint holiday cabins, seasonal gardens, and picturesque Lake Guy, Bogong Village is considered an idyllic getaway. However, with the onset of Covid-19, this holiday destination was transformed into a ghost town, closed to the public.
Using an iterative process of documentation, the artist captures her daily tracing of the landscape, searching for signs of life that might break her sense of isolation. Over twenty-four days, she records various details and characteristics of the village each day, capturing changes in atmosphere, variations in habitat, and land management processes. Whereby chance encounters occasionally rupture the social constraints and daily routines enforced by the pandemic.
The work draws on surveillance concepts and experiments with sound and editing techniques, using temporal disruptions and colour tone to fracture the image quality to conceptualise the psychological experience of isolation.
